I’ve been on an unofficial hiatus from this newsletter since June. Several things, both positive and negative, have brought this about. On the negative side, my old laptop ended up breaking from part of the outside, meaning that I’ve lost a lot of my old fiction writing, including the second half of Petty Habits. I’m obviously not very happy about this, but for some reason, I’m also not too devastated about it. Perhaps it’s because I want to get a fresh start in my fiction writing and get started on ideas that I’ve been putting on hold for too long. My old laptop had also been having problems for a long time, so I’ve been wanting to replace it for a while now. For now, I’ll be using my sister’s laptop for all of my writing, and I’ll try to see what I can do about the rest of Petty Habits. Perhaps I could repair my old laptop and continue updating it afterwards, or I’ll attempt to rewrite the remaining chapters. But don’t expect any updates on it for a while.
On the positive side, my family and I will be on vacation in Paris from August 26th through September 3rd. As those who have been reading this newsletter for a while may already know, I’ll always had a desire to travel outside of the country more often, and getting the chance to visit Europe has always been a dream of mine, so I’m very excited about this. Excited and a little nervous, to be honest. I did study French for 4 tears in high school, but there’s a big difference between the French you learn in a foreign language class and the French you hear spoken by typical French people in France, so I do have some concerns about communication over there. Also, in part because of the Olympics, everything in France will be a bit more expensive than usual. My family and I will be careful about limiting our expenses to food, transportation, and only some occasion shopping for items like perfume. Because of this, I probably won’t be going to many 5 -star restaurants during my vacation, but I will be going to some interesting places like the Palace of Versailles and Disneyland Paris, for which we already have reservations made. Hopefully everything goes well for us, and I’ll be sure to write about my experiences there when I get back.
So that’s everything I have going on recently. I’ll try my best to get back to writing regularly again in September and I hope you all enjoy the remainder of this summer.
